This teapot is from a collection of floral, porcelain teapots that I made while in residence in Jingdezhen, China. The clay comes from the kaolin mountain that was the source for the well known Ming Dynasty porcelains. This was a wonderful opportunity to study with Chinese porcelain masters in flower making, carving, and painting. These teapots are very decorative as well as technically functional and food safe.
This Ming Vase Teapot features delicate (but very strong and durable) peonies and leaves and fired on transfers. The vase form on the teapot platform is intended as a bow to the great ceramic achievements of the Ming Dynasty. The highlight on this teapot for me is the crystals that formed in the vase glaze. A true tribute to Ming porcelain. It is 6" high and 5" wide.
